Storm debris cleanup in North Texas: what to do first

Wind, hail and ice can leave limbs, fencing and roofing across a yard. Here is a safe order to handle it and what to do before you call a hauler.

1. Stay safe first

  • Stay away from downed or low power lines and anything touching them. Call your electric utility and 911 if someone is in danger.
  • Watch for broken glass, nails, hanging limbs and unstable trees or fences.
  • Do not use a chainsaw on a tree under tension or near a line. Leave it to a qualified tree service.

2. Document the damage

  • Photograph and video everything before you move it.
  • Note the date and the type of storm.
  • Keep receipts and invoices for cleanup, since your insurer may ask for them.

3. Call your insurance company

Ask what your policy covers and what they need for debris removal. Policies and deductibles differ, so check yours.

4. Decide what you can handle yourself

Small limbs and light debris can be bagged or stacked. Large limbs, fallen trees, damaged fencing and roofing pieces are heavy and can be dangerous. That is when a crew helps.

5. Check your city's pickup plans

After big storms, some cities announce special brush or debris collection. The timing and rules differ by city, so look at your city's website. If you cannot wait, or the debris is more than the city will take, we can haul it from your private property.

6. Call us for the haul-away

We remove fallen limbs, damaged fencing, shingles and other storm debris. We do not work on power lines or unstable trees. We can give you an invoice for your claim. See storm debris removal and tree trimming and removal, or call or text for a quote.
